Who's behind this

An honest baggage guide written by someone who's been there.

BaggageWise exists because airline baggage rules have become a maze designed to extract fees from people who don't have time to read 40-page contracts of carriage. We translate those rules into something useful.

The founder

Meet Marcus Hale

Marcus is a 15-year flight operations specialist. He has worked behind the ticket counter, on the ramp, and in airline ops control rooms during peak holiday meltdowns. He's watched thousands of passengers get hit with overweight fees they didn't see coming, and he's seen what a $200 surcharge feels like at 6 a.m. on the way to a vacation.

BaggageWise started as a Google Doc he kept sending to family members before every trip. It got long. Then it got linked. Then it became a site.

Our editorial principles

  • Independent. We don't sell shipping or take commissions from carriers.
  • Specific. Numbers, dimensions, and dollar amounts — not "varies by airline."
  • Updated. Every airline-policy page is reviewed at least quarterly.
  • Plain English. No contract-of-carriage jargon when a sentence will do.
  • Human-reviewed. Marcus reads everything before it ships.
What we cover

Four things, done properly

Shipping cost

The calculator on the homepage gives you a realistic estimate in seconds.

Size & weight

Universal carry-on and checked rules with the per-airline exceptions that matter.

Fees

Overweight, oversize, second-bag — the surcharge tiers laid out in real numbers.

Sports gear

Skis, golf, snowboard, bikes — the awkward stuff airlines love to charge for.
