Why ship

Less hassle. Often less money.

Skip the bag drop, the overweight surcharge, and the wait at the carousel. Here's why thousands of travelers ship their bags ahead in 2026.

No overweight panic

Most airlines charge $100–$200 if your bag tips over 50 lb. Shippers charge a fixed rate by tier — much friendlier to your wallet.

Walk straight to security

Drop your bag a few days early, scan tracking from your phone, and walk through the terminal carrying only what you need.

Built for oddly shaped gear

Skis, snowboards, golf bags, bike boxes, even a stand-up bass — shippers handle oversize items that airlines treat as a punishment.

Door-to-door tracking

Every major shipper gives you live tracking from your house to your hotel lobby. No more "is my bag in the right city?" anxiety.

Better for long trips

Studying abroad, snowbirding, or moving for a season? Shipping a couple of boxes ahead beats paying for extra bags on each leg.

Common questions

Quick answers

How much does it cost to ship luggage?

Most domestic luggage shipments cost between $25 and $90 per bag depending on weight, distance, and delivery speed. Cross-country and international shipments can run higher. Use the calculator at the top of this page for a personalized estimate.

Is shipping luggage cheaper than checking it?

For a single short flight on a low-cost carrier, checking a bag is usually still cheaper. For multi-leg trips, oversize gear (golf, skis), or anything over 50 lb, shipping ahead is often cheaper than airline overweight fees — and far less stressful.

What is a "standard" checked bag in 2026?

On most US carriers, a standard checked bag must not exceed 62 linear inches (length + width + height) and 50 pounds. International economy is usually 62 in / 23 kg. See the full size chart.

Can I ship sports equipment like skis or golf clubs?

Yes — these are some of the most popular items to ship because airlines often charge $150+ as oversize. Use the Skis or Golf option in the calculator. Pack tightly, use head covers on clubs, and consider basic insurance.

Do you actually ship the bags?

No. BaggageWise is an independent guide and estimator. We don't take payments, hold bags, or arrange carriers. We give you honest information so you can pick the right shipper for your trip.
